Hungry Harold's
About This Spot
Hungry Harold’s is one of those neighborhood spots that feels like a well-worn pair of sneakers—comforting, familiar, and quietly dependable. Nestled along a stretch of West Slauson Avenue, the steady hum of life here speaks to a space where stories are shared over simple, satisfying meals. The pace is easygoing, the kind of place where regulars still find their spot at the window and new faces are welcomed with nods that feel genuine rather than rehearsed.
Walking up to Hungry Harold’s, you sense this is a local landmark shaped by decades of community rhythm. The smells wafting from the kitchen—grilled onions searing on a patty melt, the warm embrace of freshly toasted buns—invite casual indulgence rather than fanfare. Here, food is about hearty satisfaction, a moment of break from the day’s demands, whether that’s a breakfast sandwich packed with savory layers or a cheeseburger that carries the touch of something long-loved.
The atmosphere hints at stories passed down and new memories being made. Like many neighborhood spots, Hungry Harold’s wears its history lightly, visible in the friendly exchanges at the counter and the subtle hum of city life outside. It’s a place where authenticity matters—where the experience is less about the spotlight and more about the steady pulse of daily comfort.
There’s a modesty about the portions and prices that reflects the realities of sustaining tradition in a changing neighborhood. While some may wish for larger plates or a more polished kind of customer service, there’s a warmth here that can’t easily be replicated—a quiet testament to how food remains a connector across time and generations. Whether you’re stopping in for a quick soda or settling in with a chilly pastrami sandwich, Hungry Harold’s quietly honors the enduring spirit of its community.

The food is "FIRE"! However, the portions are smaller than before. And, that's such a big deal because the prices are outrageous! Plus, the person at the window is rude and impatient. Back in the days, I used to eat here, several times per week. Now, only about once every few months, for the foregoing reasons.

This place had so much history to so many. The best food for a kid after school!! A legend in our community That pastrami was lit!! I was saddened to see the demolition sign, but happy to know that THEY MOVED ACROSS THE STREET The history of L.A. is disappearing atleast a lot of the landmark businesses that were around when I was growing up. I'm starting to take more pictures because change is here.

This place never disappoints me. I've tried almost everything on the menu, and it is definitely yummy, especially the fried zucchini. The prices are reasonable. The place is clean and the people are very polite. I definitely recommend this place.

This is my dad's favorite place! I tried the chili cheese fries, and the pastrami sandwich, the taste was authentic & delicious But small portions 17$ I like the price$ I would buy again only thing I would ask for is it to be more crispy or more toasted when I order next time. Oh, and the cashier is very nice and kind. Thank you for the meal. God bless you.

I am so glad I found Hungry Harold's. They have such great food at great prices. I really love their breakfast burritos there, the hash brown potatoes are home made and delicious. For the price, this place is unbeatable.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Best chili burgers anywhere — 30 years and still as good as day one. Nothing fancy, just amazing, consistent food every single time. A true local gem!
